7-Day The Best of Africa's Big Five Safari

English
7 Days
Easy
This “Big Five” safari in Tanzania includes must see destinations such as Serengeti National Park (with its many beautiful animals), the lush Ngorongoro Crater, a visit to the varied landscapes of Tarangire National Park, and the chance to observe flamingos and tree-climbing lions at Lake Manyara National Park.
ITINERARY:

Day 1: Arusha - Tarangire National Park
Activities: Game Drive

Pick up from your hotel or at the airport (We advise you arrive a day before or very early in the morning and start the tour on the same day) and drive to drive to Tarangire National Park. Tarangire is home to some dry-country antelope, such as the rare fringe-eared oryx and peculiar, long-necked gerenuk. The swampy areas in the south of the park offer some interesting wildlife viewing opportunities including wallowing elephants and buffalo, the Silale Swamp lion pride and sometimes wild dog. Big pythons can sometimes be found in trees when the swamps are drying up. You'll have lunch at the picnic site and proceed with game drives until around check out time. Later afternoon, drive to Tarangire Baobab Tented camp for dinner and overnight. Meal Plan: L, D.

Day 2: Lake Manyara National Park
Activities: Game Drive

After breakfast, drive to Lake Manyara N.P (330 Km2) with a packed lunch box. The park has a massive but shallow soda lake located at the foot of the Great Rift Valley’s western escarpment. The varied habitat attracts a wide variety of animals, including one of Africa’s largest concentrations of elephants, Manyara’s unique tree-climbing lions, as well as large flocks of flamingos. Manyara is a scenic gem, with a setting extolled by Ernest Hemingway as “the loveliest I had seen in Africa”. From the entrance gate, along the roadside, blue monkeys scamper nimbly between the ancient mahogany trees, dainty bush buck tread warily through the shadows, and out sized forest horn bills honk cacophonous in the high canopy. Later afternoon, drive to Entamanu Ngorongoro for dinner and overnight. Meal Plan: B, L, D.

Day 3: Ngorongoro Crater
Activities: Game Drive

After an early morning breakfast, drive to Ngorongoro Conservation Area with a packed lunch box and descend into the Ngorongoro Crater. The Ngorongoro Crater (19.2km of diameter, 610m deep, and 304 sq km) is one of the most densely crowded wildlife areas in the world and is home to some of Tanzania’s last remaining black rhinos. Its huge population of predators is another big draw card to this picturesque crater. Supported by a year-round water supply and fodder, this breathtaking oasis provides a haven for both predator and prey to live among grasslands. Later afternoon, drive to Entamanu Ngorongoro for dinner and overnight. Meal Plan: B, L, D.

Day 4: Ngorongoro crater – Ndutu Area
Activities: Game Drive

After breakfast and with our packed lunch boxes we will start our safari to Ndutu area for a full day game drive. Ndutu is within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, and situated in the Southern part of Serengeti ecosystem. Lake Ndutu like most other Rift Vallye’s lakes is alkaline, however, the water is still drinkable and consumed by a wide array of local wildlife and the majority of the wildebeest migration can normally be found on the short-grass plains from December to March. The area is usually heavily populated with elephant, birds and resident game. In the evening you will drive to Chaka camp for Dinner and Overnight. Meal Plan: B, L, D.

Day 5: Full Day in Ndutu Area
Activities: Game Drive

Morning breakfast then start to enjoy your game drives in Ndutu area along Southern Part of Serengeti exploring a great range of various habitats such as swamps, woodland, soda lakes and the world famous Serengeti short grass plains. You will witness herds of wildebeest and zebras especially during a short time-frame from around February and lasting for about 3 weeks where majority of the wildebeest calves. The Sea of grass provides little cover and the young make an easy prey for a variety of predators. Wildebeest calves can run minutes after they were born and within 3 days, they are normally strong enough to keep up with the herd. Later you will return to Chaka camp for dinner and overnight. Meal Plan: B, L, D.

Day 6: Ndutu - Serengeti National Park (Central)
Activities: Game Drive

Morning breakfast, hotel check out then drive to Serengeti National Park (Central Area) for full day of game drive with your packed lunch boxes. The Serengeti “Endless Plain” is Tanzania’s oldest and most popular National Park. Serengeti is famed for its annual migration where some six million hooves pound the open plains. Serengeti offers an exotic game-viewing experience in the whole of Africa giving you an up-close look of the animals you’ve only seen in National Geographic: great herds of buffalo, smaller groups of elephant and giraffe, and thousands of eland, topi, kongoni, impala Grant’s gazelle and many more.Later you will return to Chaka camp for dinner and overnight.
