Very early in the morning we depart to the villages for a local hunting & gathering experience with Hadzabe (hunter-gatherer Bushmen) and Datoga (blacksmiths) tribes. The Bushmen rely on their foraging techniques to survive and you’ll need to be very attentive and at times very quiet, while they demonstrate their animal tracking skills and the use of locally made poisons in incapacitating their targets on which they depend for survival. We will later visit their homesteads, learn about their ways of life, medicinal plants and much more. Later in the evening we drive back to Karatu town. Dinner and overnight at Bougainvillea Safari Lodge. Meal Plan: {B, L, D}.

After breakfast drive to the Serengeti (14,763 sq km or 5,700 sq miles) for game drives. As the day cools and the Serengeti sky is streaked by red, gold and orange hues, you may be surprised by the roar of a lion, a galloping giraffe, or the high-pitched giggling of hyenas fighting over a kill. The park is famous for the 'Great Migration', when over one million wildebeest and two hundred thousand plus zebras each year follow the seasonal rains for green pastures. Even without this mass migration, the Serengeti is still an impressive and spectacular place that still cannot fail to enthrall. Enjoy game drives until around sunset. Dinner and overnight at Thorn Tree Camp. Meal Plan: {B, L, D}.

Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater – Karatu
Distance: 145km, ETA: 3 hours

After an early morning breakfast, drive to Ngorongoro Conservation Area and descend into the Ngorongoro Crater. The Ngorongoro Crater (19.2km of diameter, 610m deep, and 304 sq km) is one of the most densely crowded wildlife areas in the world and is home to some of Tanzania’s last remaining black rhinos. Its huge population of predators is another big draw card to this picturesque crater. Supported by a year-round water supply and fodder, this breathtaking oasis provides a haven for both predator and prey to live among grasslands. After game drives, drive to Bougainvillea Safari Lodge for the overnight. Meal Plan: B, L, D.

Day 6: Lake Manyara National Park – Lake Natron Area
Distance: 50km, ETA: 1 hour
Wildlife Viewing Time: 6 hours

Pick up from the lodge and drive to Lake Manyara National Park. The park has a massive but shallow soda lake located at the foot of the Great Rift Valley’s western escarpment. The varied habitat attracts a wide variety of animals, including one of Africa’s largest concentrations of elephants, Manyara’s unique tree-climbing lions, as well as large flocks of flamingos. Manyara is a scenic gem, with a setting extolled by Ernest Hemingway as “the loveliest I had seen in Africa”. From the entrance gate, along the roadside, blue monkeys scamper nimbly between the ancient mahogany trees, dainty bush buck tread warily through the shadows, and out sized forest horn bills honk cacophonous in the high canopy. After game drives, drive to Africa Safari Lake Natron (Safari Comfort Bungalow) for the overnight. Meal Plan: B, L, D.

Day 7: Lake Natron Area – Arusha
Distance: 280km, ETA: 5 hours

Later during the day visit the Engaresero waterfall, by hiking through the steep gorges that lead to this amazing waterfall where there is a plunge pool where you can swim. After a long day of exploring this remote land, start your journey back to your hotel in Arusha/ Airport.
