Rathauspark, Vienna

Vienna is the greenest city in the world, and Rathauspark is a fantastic example of the green vision of a city in which almost half of its area is covered with vegetation. Rathauspark is one of the loveliest parks in Vienna and was inaugurated in 1873. It was the wish of Emperor Franz Joseph I, to create a park for Vienna's residents. Therefore he ordered Dr. Rudolf Siebeck, the city gardener, to design a green area that will serve as a contrast to some of Vienna's famous landmarks, as the University of Vienna, the Parliament, City Hall, and the national theater, Burgtheater. The outcome exceeded the expectations of the joyous of Vienna's residents and tourists from all over the world. The park hosts plenty of outdoor events and the celebrated Christmas market and is a magnificent place to wander around or sit and relax during a busy travel day.
