Synagogue of El Transito

The Synagogue of El Transito is a historic synagogue in Toledo, Spain. It is one of the best-preserved medieval synagogues in Europe and has been called "the jewel of Toledo's Old City". The synagogue was built in 1356 by Samuel ha-Levi, treasurer to Pedro I of Castile. It was used as a place of worship until 1492, when the city's Jews were expelled from Spain. The building was then used as a hospital, a church, and a storehouse. It was restored to its original purpose in the 20th century and is now a museum.
