Shakespeare and Company, Paris

Magnificent English bookstore with a rich history and enchanting bohemian atmosphere. The store is located near Notre Dame Cathedral and was opened by the American George Whitman in 1951 in a 17th-century building that used to be a monastery. The bookstore becomes a central spot in Paris's cultural life with many famous writers that visit the place, such as William Burroughs, Allen Ginsberg, Julio Cortázar, and Henry Miller if to mention a very few.
